Interview with Exahertz: How Hydro-Cooling Mining Technology "Conquered" the Desert?

Mining in extreme desert conditions presents a huge challenge. BITMAIN's hydro-cooling mining technology offers an innovative solution to this challenge. We spoke with Jad Kharma, CEO of Exahertz, and Sam Ferdows, Managing Partner of Exahertz, to learn more about how Exahertz is "conquering" the desert with hydro-cooling mining technology and building a mining facility.

Exahertz, an Oman-based blockchain venture co-founded by Jad Kharma and Sam Ferdows, is currently running a government-based hydro-cooling data center in Salalah, Oman, which deploys ANTMINERs. Exahertz also recently entered into a 50MW hydro-cooling mining partnership with BITMAIN.

"Hydro-cooling mining is quite a revolutionary technology, especially for the Middle East", said Jad, "The excellent heat dissipation advantage of hydro-cooling technology provides us with ample security for mining in desert areas, which was almost impossible in the past. Therefore, we are very grateful to BITMAIN's hydro-cooling mining technology for helping us 'conquer' the desert."

"The challenges faced by desert mining facilities in the Middle East go beyond the heat, as there are similar conditions in other regions, such as Texas. The more daunting challenge stems from the humidity conditions in the Middle East," Jad emphasizes, "meaning that the Middle East actually faces high levels of heat and humidity. High temperatures make it difficult to operate the miners, while high humidity corrodes them. Therefore, the hydro-cooling miners with ANTSPACE's hydro-cooling mining technology provide a very good solution that effectively solves this problem. Economically, it is also more advantageous than immersion cooling. "

"I couldn't agree more with Jad", Sam added, "The hydro-cooling miners were able to run very smoothly in Oman, we didn't experience any moments of downtime and stayed almost 100% uptime, which is great. Even in the summer months when the temperatures are higher, everything runs well, except that there may be some extra consumption in terms of water."

"We have looked for more diverse sources of cooling water though," said Sam, "thanks to BITMAIN's combined wet and dry cooling tower solution, which is extremely flexible, so we can also flex the cooling water depending on the temperature and the environment. We recently discovered that we can reuse municipal graywater as one of the sources of cooling water for the combined dry and wet cooling towers, which is a great benefit to us and the government, and is a very clean and sustainable solution for mining."
